MCT’s commitment to public education recognized by Board of Education
November 26, 2008
On Thursday, October 23, 2008 at the Carver Educational Services Center in Rockville, MCT Federal Credit Union was awarded The Board of Education’s Distinguished Service to Public Education Award in the category of Business. MCT’s President and CEO, Thom Beck, accepted the award on MCT’s behalf, and spoke about MCT’s mission and values as an organization as well its historical and ongoing commitment to the MCPS community.
During his speech, Thom remarked, “Today, businesses have a lot of requests of them, but serving MCPS was a simple decision since they are so deeply rooted in our heritage. We have always been firmly committed to our roots, and as we approach our 60th year as a credit union, MCPS will remain a major focus of ours in the years to come.”
Joan Donovan, a retired MCPS teacher closely involved with the Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA) and the MCPS Retirees Association, nominated MCT for the award in August. In her her nomination, she praised MCT’s sustained service, support, and commitment to public education through its scholarships and sponsorships; its involvement in a variety of outreach programs that benefit MCPS, such as its in-school branch program; and its commitment to financial literacy.
Said Board of Education President Nancy Navarro, "The Board of Education was delighted to honor MCT during its Twelfth Annual Distinguished Service to Public Education Awards Ceremony. Through numerous programs and initiatives, the credit union demonstrates its commitment to the financial literacy and well-being of our students and the community."
